There are three breast implant manufacturers in the United States that are approved by the FDA for breast augmentation:

  • Natrelle (manufactured by Allergan)
  • Mentor
  • Sientra

Sientra breast implants are the newest, having received FDA approval in April 2012. In general, all three breast implant manufacturers make excellent products which have very strong safety records and deliver exceptional breast augmentation results.

Although some plastic surgeons may offer breast implants produced by all three manufacturers, most surgeons prefer one over the others, simply based on their familiarity with the different sizes, categories, and other small details that are unique to each company. Plastic surgeons usually also establish a relationship with one breast implant manufacturer over another. There is no perceivable different in the results that each company’s breasts implants can achieve.

The factors that are much more likely to impact your breast augmentation include:

  • Breast implant size
  • Breast implant type (saline or silicone, tear drop or round, textured or smooth)
  • Breast implant placement
  • The skill and experience of your plastic surgeon

Our board-certified breast surgeons at Marietta Plastic Surgery encourage you to ask any questions you may have about the differences between implant manufacturers during your initial consultation. These questions can help you gain a better understanding of why we may choose one manufacturer over another, and it will hopefully lead to a discussion of the aspects of your breast augmentation procedure which have more of an impact on your final outcome.
